A 39-year old man from Hopetown in Northern Cape was sentenced to 15-years imprisonment by the Hopetown regional court on Wednesday.
Hendrik Yman was found guilty for murdering his life partner, Magdalena Johanna van Heerden (39).
A provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Olebogang Tawana said the van Heerden succumbed to stab wounds on her upper body.
It is believed the couple was in a heated argument in December last year that resulted in the fatality.
“The victim was certified as dead on the crime scene, with six stab wounds on her upper body,” said Tawana.
Tawana said the Northern Cape police management welcomes the sentencing of the regional court.
“The detective, Warrant Officer Phillip Kleynhans has worked tirelessly with the National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) and Department of Justice(DoJ) by ensuring that Hendrik was sentenced to an effective 15 years behind bars.”
He said the police condemns the violent and barbaric acts against women. “Prescribed minimum jail sentences should be deterrent to those who commit crimes against women and children. “
