Two thieves were sentenced to eight years imprisonment after they were found guilty for stealing a bakkie in Kuruman in 2016.
The accused, Tshepo Saul, 40, and Brian Nkatswang, 33, were caught red-handed when they set fire to the Ford Bantam bakkie in the central town area.
The owner of the vehicle reported his bakkie stolen, subsequent finding it missing in the parking bay close to his workplace.
A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said the police were immediately activated to be on the look-out for a reported stolen vehicle, hence the duo was caught in action setting the vehicle alight near Mothibistad.
The bakkie burnt beyond recognition.
Ramatseba said the investigating officer of the Kimberley crime investigating unit were able to link the duo to the crime scene and the theft of the vehicle.
Both Saul and Nkatswang were sentenced on Monday by the Mothibistad regional court.
