The National Treasury is considering major changes for the 370 rand Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant.

More than eight-million recipients currently rely on the SRD Grant every month in South Africa.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana previously revealed that the government wants to link support to employment and skills programmes.

Some stakeholders, however, believe that this could cause more harm than good.

They warn that many people might not be able to access or qualify for these programmes.
