Government says progress is being made in economic recovery, but unemployment remains a major concern.

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, says growth must translate into jobs, income and improved living conditions for all South Africans.

She reported a 0.8 percent GDP growth in the second quarter of 2025 and a decline in unemployment to 31.9 percent, although youth unemployment remains critically high.

Ramokgopa highlighted gains in energy stability, infrastructure investment and investor confidence, including South Africa’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force grey list.

She added that government will continue strengthening local government performance and accelerating reforms to drive inclusive growth.
