Northern Cape MEC for Traditional Affairs, Bentley Vass, says the reburial of Khoi and San ancestral remains is about uniting communities.
This follows concerns raised by the Steinkopf community last week, who had called for the ceremony to be postponed, citing exclusion from planning processes.
Engagements between the community and the Department of Arts and Culture in the Namakwa region on Monday, March 16, have since resolved the matter.
Proceedings are now back on track, with the reburial ceremony scheduled to take place next Monday, March 23, in Steinkopf.
Vass has urged both government and communities to prioritise unity and clear communication in handling sensitive cultural matters.
