The Northern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance has presented its latest municipal performance report to the provincial legislature on Wednesday, March 18.
MEC Bentley Vass says he is concerned about the overall state of municipalities across the province.
The report shows that 27 municipalities submitted their Annual Financial Statements on time, while four failed to meet the deadline.
Vass reflected on the COGHSTA Portfolio Committee that improving local government requires stronger cooperation between municipalities, government and stakeholders.
Vass says there are plans to partner with Sol Plaatje University to support the training and development of councillors.
