The Department of Roads and Public Works in the Northern Cape says it is actively responding to disruptions affecting school bus services in the Richtersveld Municipal area.

The Department says the problem has been caused by windblown desert sand accumulating on the Beauvallon road between Kuboes and Alexander Bay, blocking one lane and affecting access.

The department says that sand build-up is a recurring challenge in arid regions, where strong winds frequently impact road safety.

Zandisile Luphahla, department spokesperson says despite ongoing pressure from flood damage in the Khai-Ma Municipal area, the Beauvallon route has been prioritised due to its importance for learner transport and community access.

Luphahla says a dedicated team with heavy machinery is on site, and clearing operations will continue until the road is fully restored and safe for use. (Clip)
