Koingnaas residents and businesses have been without electricity for 36 days, prompting the Democratic Alliance to call for urgent provincial intervention.

The DA is calling on provincial government to intervene, saying Kamiesberg Municipality has been unable to repair a high-voltage cable fault that has left the town without a reliable power supply.

Cllr Esmé Hough says businesses have suffered major losses, while residents say their livelihoods have been severely affected by the prolonged outage.

Community members, mine and plant workers, and neighbouring Nama Khoi Municipality have provided equipment and assistance, while residents are raising funds for repairs.

The DA is demanding immediate technical support, accountability and the restoration of electricity in Koingnaas.
