The funding was approved by the National Disaster Management Centre through the Municipal Disaster Relief Grant.
The beneficiary municipalities are Gasegonyana, Gamagara, Phokwane, Tsantsabane and Joe Morolong.
The department says the funds will be used for repairs to roads, stormwater systems, water and sanitation networks, as well as community and municipal facilities.
The department MEC Lebogang Motlhaping committed to maintain oversight of the funds and work with municipalities to ensure transparent, accountable and timely implementation of the recovery projects.
