A parliamentary inquiry into the governance and challenges facing diamond mining company Alexkor has resumed following a budget increase granted to the Mineral Resources Committee earlier September 2026.
The inquiry is examining the state-owned company’s operations, governance and financial difficulties, with Alexkor mining diamonds in Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape.
According to Parliament, the company operates through a pooling and sharing joint venture with the Richtersveld Mining Company, with Alexkor holding 51 percent and the RMC 49 percent.
The committee has proposed a joint investigation with the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, including a focus on the root causes of Alexkor’s audit disclaimers over the past five financial years.
The renewed parliamentary scrutiny comes as Alexkor faces continued pressure to address governance and operational challenges affecting the company and the wider Richtersveld mining region.
