Northern Cape MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mangaliso Matika handed over Community Arts Centre equipment to BYS Youth Development in Port Nolloth on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
According to the department, the equipment is aimed at supporting the next generation of creatives and young people in the region.
The department says the initiative will help reduce the costly need for young artists, music producers and sound engineers to travel long distances to access professional recording facilities, with the journey from Kimberley to Springbok alone being approximately 777 to 782 kilometres by road.
The equipment is expected to assist talented young music producers and sound engineers in developing their skills and bringing the region’s hidden creative gems to the forefront.
The department says the initiative forms part of efforts to create greater opportunities for young creatives to develop, produce and showcase their work closer to home.
