The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has launched a self-service online voter registration portal to improve access and efficiency.

The system allows citizens to register, update and verify their details remotely.

More than 26-thousand new voters have already registered through the portal, bringing the total number of registered voters to nearly 28 million.

IEC Deputy Head of Communications David Mandaha says the platform aims to encourage greater participation, especially among young people.
