World Health Organization officials in the Africa Region say the risk of hantavirus infections across the continent remains low.

Despite the low risk, the WHO is urging countries to maintain high levels of vigilance and surveillance. 

Health authorities note that no widespread outbreaks linked to the virus have been reported in the region.

Hantaviruses are primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings, making sanitation and rodent control key preventive measures. 

The WHO says it will continue to monitor the situation closely and support countries in strengthening early detection systems.
