The Independent Electoral Commission in the Namakwa District has urge eligible communities to register ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. 

IEC says final voter registration will take place nationwide on August 1 & 2, with voting stations open from 8 o'clock in the morning until 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

In the Namakwa District, the IEC stats reflect that currently 76,720 registered voters, including 30,528 in Nama-Khoi, 14,473 in Hantam, 8,830 in Khâi-Ma, 7,662 in Kamiesberg, 7,624 in Richtersveld and 7,603 in Karoo Hoogland. 

This comes as communities will head to the polls on the 4th of November to elect new local government representatives. 

IEC Leonardia Diergaardt has urged all eligible voters to ensure they are registered and that their voting details are up to date before the registration deadline.
