The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape has dismissed a WhatsApp message alleging that Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, demanded payment in connection with a criminal case.
Police says the allegations are false and have no factual basis.
Police have condemned the circulation of what they describe as misleading information intended to damage the reputation of senior officers and undermine public confidence in the service.
POlice urged the public not to share unverified messages and to report any allegations of corruption or criminal conduct through the appropriate law enforcement channels.
Police spokesperson Brigd. Mashay Gamieldien says police remain committed to integrity and are considering action against those responsible for creating and spreading defamatory content.
