Northern Cape Premier Dr. Zamani Saul has reshuffled the provincial Executive Council yesterday following the resignation of MEC Fufe Makatong.

After weeks of speculation, Saul has formally accepted Makatong’s resignation from the Roads and Public Works portfolio, which she reportedly attributed to what she described as improper interference by the Premier in departmental affairs.

Four new MECs have been appointed, with Bentley Vass taking Roads and Public Works; Lebogang Motlhaping overseeing Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs; Newreen Klaaste responsible for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform; and Mirriam Kibi appointed to the Premier’s Office.

Kibi will focus on children, women, youth and persons living with disabilities across the province. The reshuffle aims to strengthen government capacity and improve service delivery.
