The Department of Small Business Development says the Northern Cape received more than 5-point-three million rand in funding, with 448-thousand rand allocated to the Namakwa District Municipality.

This was revealed by the department’s Director-General, Thulisile Manzini, during a briefing on the 2026/27 Quarter One Performance Report on the Spaza Shops Support Fund and registration on Friday, August 14.

The department says of the 96 approved enterprises in the province, eight are from Namakwa, including seven owned by women, while none are owned by youth or persons living with disabilities.

Manzini says the department has noted the challenges affecting implementation and is assessing them.

The department says it will continue working to address these challenges and improve access to support for small businesses.
