The Namakwa District is set to receive five of the Northern Cape Department of Health’s newly launched 30 ambulances on Tuesday, 08 September 2026.

The provincial government says this form part of efforts to improve emergency medical services in the province.

The additional ambulances are expected to strengthen services at the district’s 12 public healthcare facilities, including hospitals, community health centres and local clinics.

Namakwa currently has only 14 operational ambulances serving an estimated 140-thousand residents across the vast district, placing significant pressure on emergency response services.

The Department says the new vehicles will add much-needed capacity and help improve response times, particularly in remote communities facing long distances and poor road conditions.

The investment forms part of the province’s ongoing fleet renewal programme, with a further 30 ambulances planned before the end of the current financial year.
