The Northern Cape Funda Mzantsi Book Club team has arrived in George to represent the province at the 16th Funda Mzantsi Championship, taking place from 28 September to 2 October 2026.

Three participants from the Namakwa District are part of the provincial team, namely Thomas Swartz from Sanddrift, Paul Dawid Vogelsang from Port Nolloth and Gerba Pick from Kuboes.

The team last week completed a preparatory camp in Kimberley, where participants focused on building confidence, unity and team spirit ahead of the national competition.

Acting Head of the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Advocate Thulani Binase, encouraged the participants to support one another and represent the province as one team.

Binase described the participants as underdogs who can prevail, while wishing the team a safe journey and success as they compete on the national stage.
