During August 2022, a 35 year old female victim and her child were assaulted by a 32 year old suspect in Port Nolloth.According to Sergeant Molefi Shemane, Armed with a protection order, she reported and opened a case and the suspect was subsequently arrested. On Thursday, 24 August 2023, the accused was convicted and sentenced as follows; Count 1: Contravention of protection order, 4 years imprisonment of which 12 months is suspended for 5 years.Count 2: Assault common, 18 months imprisonment and both sentences will run concurrently.In an unrelated incident that occurred on Saturday, 15 May 2022 , a 16 year old male victim was stabbed with a knife on his chest by a 15 year old boy.A case of attempted murder was opened and the suspect arrested.On Thursday, 24 August 2024, the accused was convicted and sentenced to 4 years imprisonment of which 2 years is suspended for 5 years.The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded D/Sgt Yolande Goedeman for her sterling investigative work that ensured that the perpetrators of gender based violence and femicide and crimes against children are removed from society.
