Parliament is expected to spend seven-million rand on this year’s State of the Nation Address (Sona).
This is less than half of last year’s costs.
Parliament allegedly had to cut down because of hiring equipment that covers all broadcasting and ensuring the Information and Communication Technology infrastructure is fit for their purpose.
According to Parliament’s Secretary, Xolile George, the use of the Cape Town City Hall was not their biggest expense.
Parliament coughed up 14-million rand last year for the Sona because they hired the Cape Town International Convention Centre for guests.
George says this year the Department of Public Works will fund the marquee.
