Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has appointed Doctor Gary Bauer of Wildlife Ranching South Africa to the ministerial task team overseeing the country’s foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) response.
This comes shortly after his announcement that Doctor Danie Odendaal has been removed after he failed to sign a declaration of impartiality and confidentiality.
Many agricultural organisations speculate Odendaal was merely removed because he questioned the government’s response to the FMD outbreak.
