A 33-year-old man from Pofadder has had his name added to the National Register for Sex Offenders after his conviction in the Pofadder Regional Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. 

Police says the incident happened on 24 June 2024, when the accused arrived at his sister's home late at night requesting to stay over, despite limited space, and was allowed to sleep near her minor daughter. 

During the night, the child reported to her mother that he had inappropriately touched her private parts, after which the accused fled the scene when confronted. 

Police says following an investigation by Detective Sergeant John Rowan Nortje of the Pofadder Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, the man was arrested and later found guilty of sexual assault, receiving a five-year prison sentence wholly suspended for five years. 

Lt. Col. Thabo Litabe, provincial police spokesperson says the accsed was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and Namakwa District Commander Brigadier Schalk Andrews praised the investigating officer for ensuring justice was served.
