The Regional Court sitting in Carnarvon has convicted a 22-year-old man on a charge of statutory rape.

Police says he was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years.

Police says the conviction relates to incidents that occurred between 20 April 2025 and 22 October 2025 in Bonteheuwel, involving a 15-year-old girl.

The matter was reported to police by a social worker at Carnarvon Clinic after it was discovered that the teenager was pregnant.

Detective Sergeant Marlon Eksteen of the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit investigated the case and was commended by District Commissioner of Pixley ka Seme, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, for his outstanding work.
