Ekapa Minerals workers in Kimberley have threatened to shut down the city in protest after not receiving their February salaries.

Hundreds of employees marched to the Office of the Premier, demanding urgent intervention from the Northern Cape government. 

The workers said they were left empty-handed after talks between the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and company management. 

Ekapa Minerals has applied for liquidation amid financial strain following a recent mudslide at its Du Toitspan shaft that left five miners trapped underground.

Protesters stressed they won’t resort to violence but insist their message must be heard as frustration mounts over unpaid wages.
