COPE’s Acting National Chairperson, Pakes Dikgetsi, is calling for answers over the reported expenditure of three-point-one-five-five million rand on Bafana Bafana fan parks held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in June 2026. 

Dikgetsi alleges that the events were not properly planned and that the money was spent without an open competitive tender process, raising questions about procurement procedures. 

He is also questioning why the Northern Cape Economic Development Agency was reportedly used to organise and fund the events, rather than the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture. 

Dikgetsi further alleges that provincial entities are being used to bypass normal procurement processes and says documentary evidence will be submitted to law enforcement agencies.
