The South African Petroleum Retailers Association (SAPRA) says motorists, households and businesses will face renewed financial pressure following sharp fuel price increases for September 2026.

In a media statement issued on Monday, August 31, both grades of petrol will increase by R1.34 per litre, while diesel will rise by between R2.93 and R3.14 per litre.

Illuminating paraffin will increase by up to R2.84 per litre, while LPGas will rise by 69 cents per kilogram nationally and by 79 cents in the Western Cape.

SAPRA National Chair Henry van der Merwe says the increases are driven by international petroleum prices, global supply conditions, geopolitical developments and movements in the rand-dollar exchange rate.

The association is urging motorists to plan trips carefully, maintain their vehicles, check tyre pressure and adopt fuel-efficient driving habits as the increases could also contribute to higher transport and everyday costs.
