The Democratic Alliance says its administration has put Nama Khoi Municipality on a stronger path of financial recovery and what it describes as clean governance.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 18 September 2026, the party says the municipality inherited almost R500 million in combined legacy debt to Eskom and the Vaal Central Water Board.

The party says it has since cleared about R210 million owed to Eskom and reduced the outstanding Vaal Central Water Board debt to around R35 million.

DA Rodney Kritzinger says the party's governance has attributed to the progress to improved financial controls, stronger revenue collection, spending discipline and compliance with debt-relief requirements.

Kritzinger says the financial turnaround is now creating an opportunity for greater investment in electricity, water and sanitation infrastructure, while acknowledging that challenges remain.
