Ekapa Minerals workers in Kimberley have threatened to shut down the city in protest after not receiving their February salaries, calling for urgent intervention from the Premier’s Office.

The workers marched to the Office of the Premier on Friday, expressing frustration that promises to convey their demands have not been acted on.

Ekapa Minerals recently applied for liquidation, saying it is no longer financially viable, following a deadly mudslide at the mine that left five workers trapped 890 metres underground.

Union representatives say talks with management have failed to resolve the unpaid wages, and workers warn that the shutdown will be peaceful but resolute.

Labour relations officials have agreed to relay the list of workers’ demands to the Premier’s Office for further action.
