The Democratic Alliance in Namakwa District has welcomed the arrests of senior officials linked to alleged fraud, corruption and money laundering at Kamiesberg Local Municipality.
The party says the arrests of Municipal Manager Rufus Beukes and Speaker Melvin Cloete relate to payments for water pumps that were never delivered.
According to the DA, the case exposes deep-rooted corruption that has deprived residents of basic services and undermined service delivery.
Communities have reportedly endured failing water and sanitation systems, deteriorating infrastructure and neglected public spaces while funds meant for development were allegedly misused.
DA councillor Toelie Coetzee says the party will closely monitor the case to ensure accountability and the recovery of public funds.
