BSP Consulting Engineers directors, Bevan Steyn and Bradley Plaatjies, alongside several officials from Kamiesberg Local Municipality, briefly appeared before the Garies Magistrates Court on charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.

The accused include Municipal Manager Rufus Beukes, Speaker Melvin Cloete, Senior Accountant Rose Cloete, and several other municipal staff members.

The arrests were carried out earlier today by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team following allegations of kickbacks linked to municipal tenders.

WO Nomthandazo Mnisi, provincial hawks spokesperson said it was alleged that in November 2024, a fraudulent invoice worth over R216 000 was submitted and paid, with a portion of the funds reportedly distributed among officials through various bank accounts.

All accused have been granted bail ranging from R1 000 to R20 000, and the case has been postponed to 23 April 2026 at the Springbok Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
