South Africans commemorate Human Rights Day today, March 21, marking a key moment in the country’s democratic calendar.

The day remembers the victims of the Sharpeville Massacre and reflects on the nation’s journey towards equality, freedom and justice.

Nama-Khoi Local Municpality ward 1 councillor Charlotte Visser is calling for strong observance of the day, stressing its importance, particularly for historically marginalised communities.

She says the occasion honours those who sacrificed their lives and contributed to the struggle for freedom.

Visser says that Human Rights Day serves as a reminder of the need to protect human dignity and promote equality in all aspects of life. (Clip)
