The Northern Cape police have arrested five suspects, aged between 24 and 38, in Calvinia following a multi-disciplinary operation targeting stock theft. 

POlice says the operation “steamers,” conducted from 5 March 2026 to 20 March 2026, involved the Provincial Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Crime Intelligence, Calvinia K9 Unit, and local police structures. 

WO Molefi Shemane, provincial police spokesperson says during the operation, 16 sheep valued at R31,000 were stolen, and three brothers, a farm worker, and another associate were apprehended and charged under the Stock Theft Act.  (Clip)
