The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says the government’s decision to increase the salaries of politicians is shameful.
President Cyril Ramaphosa approved the three-point-eight percent salary increase for public office bearers, and the increase has now been gazetted.
The Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers recommended a four-point-one percent increase.
Cosatu’s Parliamentary Coordinator, Matthew Parks, says the government cannot say it does not have money to fulfil its constitutional mandates and then approve such increases.
