The Namakwa District Management has welcomed a 50-year prison sentence handed to 40-year-old Elton Pieterse in the Calvinia Regional Court, according to a police statement issued yesterday, April 14.

Police says Pieterse pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape and attempted rape, relating to incidents that took place in December 2024 involving a 17-year-old victim.

Police says the abuse was uncovered in April 2025 when the victim disclosed the matter to a nurse after discovering she was pregnant, prompting a police investigation.

The court sentenced him to 20 years each for two counts of rape and 10 years for attempted rape, to run concurrently.

Cpt. Ivan Magerman says the accused has been placed on the National Register for Sex Offenders and declared unfit to work with children and to possess a firearm. (Clip)
