A 41-year-old man, Kamiesberg Municipal manager, was granted bail set at R10,000 following charges of violating the Pension Fund Act by the Garies Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 7.

Rufus Beukes was arrested at his place of employment by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in the Northern Cape.

According to Nomthandazo Mnisi, the spokesperson for the provincial Hawks, the accused failed to remit the contributions that were deducted from both employee and employer salaries, which were due to be paid to the Consolidated Retirement Fund (CRF) from September 2019 to April 2024.

Mnisi said that the interest accrued from the delayed payments exceeded two million rands.

The case against Beukes has been adjourned until December 5 for the purpose of securing legal representation.
