The 2024 matriculants in the Namakwa district are experiencing a mix of anxiety and excitement as they await their final year results, which will be released on Tuesday, January 14.
This anticipation comes with added pressure, as they are expected to exceed the performance of the 2023 graduates. Last year, the Namakwa District recorded an impressive pass rate of 81.6%, marking a 1.6% increase from 2022.
Sergio De Jongh, a matriculant from Concordia High School, expressed his determination, stating that he has worked hard and hopes that his efforts will pay off.
“The results will determine our future paths—whether we continue our studies or seek employment. We all remain hopeful for the best and want to make our parents, teachers, and, most importantly, ourselves proud,” said De Jongh.
Rodrick Carrol, a student from Okiep High School, described the academic year as challenging. Carrol said he did his best to apply what he learned in his exams.
“I plan to further my studies in dramatic arts and dance. I hope to excel so that I can secure a bursary and turn my dreams into reality,” Carrol said. Known for his passion for performance art, he also managed to balance his studies while still pursuing his dreams and living out his passions, which he found quite challenging.
“I hope that our hard work will pay off, and I wish the best of luck to my fellow matriculants in their future endeavors,” he added.
Another student from Okiep echoed her peers’ sentiments regarding the challenges of the academic year. She mentioned that she and her fellow matriculants did their utmost to achieve satisfactory results.
“With all the extra classes and late nights, we pray that our efforts have been worthwhile,” she said.
She added, “It will not be the end of the world if someone does not receive the results they hope for; instead, it should motivate them to stand up, dust themselves off, and try again.”
