Sindy’s Transportation in the Namakwa District has announced that its passenger transportation services in Okiep and Concordia to Springbok will be discontinued on Friday, February 28.
The decision follows challenges regarding the contract with the Department of Transport in the Northern Cape, which was terminated last week on Friday, 21 February 2025.
The provincial department confirmed the contract termination with the transport service provider
“The service provider had compliance issues that the department could not overlook. The department gave the service provider sufficient time to rectify their issues and they failed,” said the department
According to sources, NFM learned that the termination was due to outstanding necessary documents and verification of rightful owners. The transport service provider is to have experienced financial and licensing problems over the past two years, threatening its survival. The sudden termination will leave eight workers out of a job after 8 years of entrusted operations.
Rennie Andrias, the department communication officer said that they are in the process of appointing a new service provider following supply chain management processes. “We will keep the public informed on progress made”.
More than 300 stranded commuters, including pupils and workers, are advised to consider alternative forms of transportation as of Monday, 03 March 2025.
Sindy’s Transport conveyed gratitude and appreciation in a public notice to its commuters for their support and promises to keep in touch with any future developments.
