The Nama-khoi local municipality areas have been exempted from load-shedding for the weekend. This follows ongoing water pipe construction.

According to the municipality, Vaal Central has been reported to have “a minor leak” on the Concordia pipeline.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the water service delivery has negatively been affected.

The municipality requested relief from the power utility for the affected areas.
“The Nama-Khoi has been exempted from load-shedding to enhance water dam level to reach full capacity and water supply… Concordia, Okiep, Bergsig, Springbok, Fonteintjie, and Matjieskloof have been exempted,” said the statement.

Not mentioned areas will continue to experience load-shedding. The latest schedule, Loadshedding was reduced to Stage 3 at 5 o’clock this morning. This is after Stage 4 has been implemented since yesterday afternoon. Therefore, Stage 3 loadshedding will remain in place until 4 o’clock this afternoon.

Community members are not pleased about the water calamity. They believe the setback occurs every festival season.

Municipal manager, Jan Swartz said the water dam level of the Concordia community is below 34%.
The municipality advises community members to use water wisely as they are trying to address the water crisis.
