The Ritchersveld Local Municipality strongly refuted claims on Friday, 22 December, suggesting the municipality drags its feet in delivering quality water.

This comes after a local social media forum alleged that the municipality is negligent in its water infrastructure. For which the hurdles that arise procrastinate water supply for the community members.
Community members voiced dissatisfaction about the municipality’s inconsistent water supply during this December. The matter rhetorically raised question, will they encounter the same issue in a few weeks having that academic calendar is around the corner prior pupils have to go back to school.
The municipality issued today a public letter stating they are aware of experienced critical water provision. However, the allegations circulating around social media have tarnished their reputation. Also, negatively affected municipality employees.
“In reality, households are regarded as clients on whose support and goodwill we rely,” said the letter.
The municipality said they are doing their best in addressing the water problems currently experienced. “We are on standby to ensure that Port Nolloth community members receive adequate water supply throughout festival season”.
Water trucks have been deployed to the affected areas.
