Mervin Cloete, the Executive mayor of the Namakwa District municipality made a bold statement slamming the Nama-Khoi Local municipality for failing to deliver quality services.

The political statement was said at the 16 Days of Activism program hosted at the Okiep REC Club on Tuesday, 05 December.

Cloete claimed that the municipality did not conduct expenditure on the funds meant for the water infrastructure for which the infrastructure is at the debilitated state.

“They have to explain to Cogsta why they spent 0% of the R16 million on Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) projects that can help with water in their towns,” he said.

Further alleged that local Nama-Khoi mayor: Dr. Gustav Bock, speaker Rodney Kritzinger and Jan Swartz appointed someone for unmentioned occupation, where they could have taken that money and sorted out the water issue.

Some of the Nama-Khoi areas like Concordia, Carolusberg and Springbok have been experiencing water-shedding due to the municipality scheduled water supply interruption.

Cloete said the poor service delivery continues the trend tradition of communicating wrong information to communities.

The Nama-Khoi Local municipality is yet to respond pertaining the allegations .
