A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment for rape. The Springbok Regional Court imposed the sentencing yesterday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said the perpetrator, Franco Swarts, sexually violated and assaulted a thirty-year-old woman in Skietbank last week Monday, 8 March 2023.
“The Court heard that on the day, the accused assaulted and raped the victim. The court handed down a ten-year direct prison sentence, for rape, two years for assault Grievous Bodily Harm, and six months for assault common,” said Sam.
Sam added that the sentences will run concurrently. Swarts has been declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name was entered in the National Sex Offenders Register.
The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, applauded the Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Agnes Vena for ensuring that the perpetrator was brought to book.
