Community members in the Namakwa District municipalities have been facing endless outages. In recent weeks, the Khai-Ma & Hantam Local municipalities have been conducting electricity and water pipe repairs.

The municipalities have been conveying apologies to the public for the inconvenience. Early this month, in Calvinia, residences could not be supplied with water following water pipe bursts. In no different situation – according to the municipality, a contractor damaged the mainstream water pipes blocking service delivery to the community members.
Hantam Municipality also reported that an electricity pole caught fire in the previous weeks affecting residences in the White City.

Meanwhile, the hurdles are identical for the Pofadder Village residences, following the repair work to the damaged electric pole.
The Pella community members are still in the continuous crisis of unknown healthy water. This comes after the municipality warned the residents last month, in October 2023, to boil the water before usage.

The Municipality takes note of the water’s colour, organic material gives the water a yellow/brown colour. Doubt exists about the bacteriological quality of household water in your community, our technical team are investigating the matter“, said the municipality.
The municipality added “the community members to use the following measures: boil water for 1 minute to kill possible organisms. If you can’t boil your water, mix one teaspoon of unsaturated, ordinary household chlorine bleach to 20 litres of water. Mix the solution thoroughly, cover and leave it for at least 2 hours before use”.

Solutions to dreadful service delivery still hangs by a narrow thread in the thin air. As the community members are left with decision who to vote for in the 2024 National election to bring quality expected services.
