Aggeneys, Thursday, 12 January 2024 – The management of Gamsberg Mine (Black Mountain Mining (Pty) Ltd) confirms a High Potential Incident at its Gamsberg Mining operations on 10 January 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 14:12 on the eastern side of the Gamsberg Mining operations where a Rigid Dump Truck went over the crest berm of level 1050 and landed on its back on level 1035 with the operator inside.
The operator has been injured and transferred to Cape Town for further medical care:
“The operator was attended to by the onsite Medical Doctor and his family was informed accordingly before he was airlifted to Cape Town for treatment. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family for a full and speedy recovery,” said Xolani Qamata, Gamsberg General Manager.
Investigation regarding the cause of the incident is underway.
VZI management requests that employees, including business partners, and community members treat this incident with the sensitivity it requires and refrain from speculation and spreading of false rumours.
Pieter van Greunen, Chief Operating Officer, concluded: “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and pray for a swift recovery.
