Four days prior Christmas day, ten people including children were involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash in Kommagas on Thursday, 21 December 2023.
The crash took place on the R355 along the Van Reenen Pass between Komaggas and Buffelsrivier.
Colonel Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control and collided into the mountain next to the road.
Six persons, including a minor were declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. While other four people were sustained seriously injured including a minor and they were sent to near hospital.
“The SAPS in Komaggas are investigating a culpable homicide after a motor vehicle accident,” Ehlers added.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga urges all road users to obey the rules of the road and for motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on a trip and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
