The office of the Executive Namakwa District Mayor has urged the Department of Education and Social Development to provide support to the mourning families and SA Van Wyk Secondary School.

They emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone receives the necessary emotional and psychological assistance during this difficult time.

This call for support comes after a tragic accident happened on the Okiep/Nababeep road on Saturday, October 12, involving five passengers in a Toyota Avanza who were returning from a rugby match.

In a statement issued yesterday, the District also called upon the rugby community to honor the memories of the coach and the rugby player with a moment of silence in the upcoming matches.

The District expressed condolences to the family and the SA van Wyk school as they mourn, and Namaqualand community continues to convey words of comfort.

“We pray for the learners who are still in hospital and wish them a speedy recovery.”

SA van Wyk School hosted a prayer session on Sunday to help the families, fellow pupils, and teachers.

Principal Stanley Thiart said the memorial service for the rugby player and coach is yet to be confirmed.
